Yin & Yang
Finding Balance Through Practice
Guided by the wisdom of Eastern traditions, Lakeside Yin embraces the dynamic interplay of yin and yang. Yin yoga emphasizes stillness, introspection, and release, while yang practices bring movement, strength, and energy.
"Yin is the stable, unmoving, hidden aspect of an object. Yang is the changing, moving, revealing aspect of an object. Our yoga practice should be alive and adaptable to our needs as we go through the seasons of our lives."
—Paul Grilley
By blending grounding stillness with energizing motion, Kathryn’s approach honors the rhythms of life, creating practices that adapt to your evolving needs.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
General Yoga and Movement
Do I need prior yoga experience to join your classes?
Not at all! Lakeside Yin embraces a functional approach to yoga, encouraging you to adapt poses to suit your body. Kathryn will guide you to focus on sensations and explore variations that feel best for you.
What does a functional approach to yoga mean?
A functional approach prioritizes how poses feel in your body rather than how they look. Kathryn focuses on guiding you to specific areas of sensation—such as the backside or thighs—and offers prop suggestions and modifications for comfort and ease.
What should I wear and how can I make my space comfortable?
Wear whatever feels most comfortable (no need for yoga leggings unless they’re your thing!). For Yin and Restorative classes, consider having socks, layers, or a blanket on hand, as these practices may leave you feeling cool. Arrange a yoga mat or soft rug and props like blocks, a strap, a bolster, and blankets—or household substitutes like pillows and books—to create a cozy, supportive space.
What should I avoid during practice?
Always avoid sharp pain or numbness in any pose. If you feel discomfort, adjust the intensity or ease out of the shape entirely. Rest in a comfortable pose until you’re ready to rejoin. Kathryn encourages a practice of self-compassion and exploration, emphasizing that your body’s signals are always valid and important.
